Your first appointment

What to expect

Your rheumatologist will undertake a thorough assessment with history, physical examination and review of all previous investigations. Additional investigations in the form of blood tests or imaging may be requested. This provides a detailed and up to date understanding of your condition so as to address your ideas, concerns and expectations.


A personalized treatment plan will then be developed in partnership with you which is best suited to your needs. This may include general advice, joint injection, prescription drugs or referral to allied health (physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, podiatry etc).

What to bring

Referral Letter

Bring along your referral from your GP (12 months validity) or Specialist (3 months validity). You can also sent it electronically beforehand.

Medicare Card

Bring along your Medicare card as your appointment attracts a rebate, which we'll process for you.

Reports & Letters

If possible, please bring any blood, urine and radiology reports, as well as previous consultation letters and list of medications.

After the appointment

A review appointment may be needed to follow up on your progress if felt necessary. This can be made on the same day. Telehealth/Zoom appointments are available but are preferred only after face to face consultation has been undertaken.

  • What's a rheumatologist?

    A rheumatologist is a specialist with expertise in diagnosis and treatment of painful and inflammatory conditions of joints, its supporting structures (tendons, ligaments and muscles) as well as a wide ranging autoimmune conditions like Lupus, Sjogrens Syndrome (dry eyes/dry mouth syndrome) and Vasculitis (inflammation of blood vessels).

  • When should I see a rheumatologist?

    If you experience symptoms such as pain, stiffness or swelling in the joints or spine (back), persistent fatigue, excessive dryness of eyes and/or mouth or skin rashes, it's possible you might suffer from certain rheumatic conditions.   • Do you see children?

    Our clinic specialises in adults only, so we're able to see patients from age fifteen (15) and up.
